Kristianna Gough, who is better known as Kristy Gough, is considered to be a champion triathlete that has been exclusively training as a bicyclist in the past couple of months. According to all of Kristy’s friends, she has won just about every one of the road races that she has entered. Sunday, when she was fatally struck, she as well as two companions was located at the front of the pack of cyclists when participating in the training ride in order to be prepared for another race that is taking place next weekend.

Clas Bjorling, who is a champion Swedish triathlete and was also Kristy’s longtime sweetheart said that he had never seen her as enthusiastic as she was in the last couple of months. He said that she was a really talented person and athlete, especially when it comes to being on a bike. He also said that she was very strong both mentally and physically.

Matt Willinger who was a fellow cyclist and friend of Kristy’s said that she had recently hit her stride as a cyclist and had been working with a pair of trainers that were from Belarus. Matt Willinger worked with the same trainers as Kristy and said that the trainers were very ecstatic about the progress she had made and what they thought she would be able to do in cycling. Kristy hoped to pursue the Ironman triathlon however; the trainers had different plans in store for her.

Her trainers wanted badly for Kristy to go to the Olympics and then on to world championships for cycling, she was definitely on the road to something out of this world special. Kristy grew up in a place known as San Leandro. She ran cross country and had been a swimmer at the Maderia School which is a boarding school that is located in Virginia. However, it wasn’t until she made it to Chabot College which is located in Hayward that she met Willinger and became a lot more passionate about the triathlons.

Willinger stated that Kristy felt free and noted that when you are working at your peak performance, you really don’t have to worry about anything else because it is liberating. Bjorling, from his home located in Sweden, made the comment that “your biggest win as an amateur is the world championship” by phone. Kristy’s biggest achievement as a professional triathlete was being able to finish third in the Ironman triathlon in two thousand and six in the United Kingdom.

All-in-all, Kristy Gough was a very special girl that touched the lives and hearts of many people that she was associated with and people that she didn’t even know. There are girls and guys all over the world that loved Kristy and the effort that she put into each triathlon that she participated in. There is truly no one else in the world like Kristy, it is people like her that make this life worth living because she shows that there are endless possibilities when you set goals for yourself and pursue them.

your words about Kristy Gough were beautiful.
As an athlete, and lover of running, cycling, and swimming,
I have somehow been touched in a way never experienced
before, by Ms. Kristy Gough. Learning of her accomplishments,
the way she lived her life, it’s as if God had a plan, and that plan was, to share the grace, the love, the life of one Kristy Gough with as many humans as possible. So tragic, yet thru this tragedy, I cannot imagine how many souls she has touched, how many fires she has ignited in the souls of athletes everywhere. She was an example like none other.
    Thank you.
