Samantha Power is Potential Foreign Policy Disaster With Obama as Commander in Chief
You have more than likely heard of Sen. Barack Obama, but have you heard of his foreign policy advisor Samantha Power? She has the potential to make foreign policy even more of a nightmare than it currently is should the Senator be elected to the White House.
She is the same lady who called Sen. Hillary Clinton, and Barack’s tenacious opponent, a monster. Now, this does not seem to be getting Samantha Power anywhere despite the fact that Obama could potentially place her as part of his foreign policy team if elected president.
Interestingly enough, Samantha Power is from Ireland. She came to the United States with her doctor mother when she was nine. Divorce was not allowed in Ireland at the time so her mother fled the situation for America and another man. Now, Samantha Power, the professor at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, has risen in rank and is a senior foreign policy advisor to Sen. Obama.
In the frenzy to help Obama receive the democratic nomination many Americans are overlooking important aspects of his team and how he would run the country. The idea that Samantha Power could be in a place of power and make important decisions regarding foreign policy is interesting and many believe scary at her lack of political prowess.
Most judge her name-calling of Sen. Clinton immature and unintelligent. It’s quite shocking a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist such as Samantha Power would stoop to such a level and that she would have fallen prey to such ignorance during an interview. However, this is what occurred and it is obvious that Samantha Power needs a crash course in diplomacy should she be chosen as a foreign policy advisor. That is, if Obama wins the White House. There are a lot of “ifs” but they are worth considering since foreign policy is becoming more and more important in this increasingly global world.
Samantha Power does have a lot of experience in the global world, however, and is the Anna Lindh Professor of Practice of Global Leadership and Public Policy at Harvard University. That is a major accomplishment in itself. She recently authored “Chasing the Flame: Sergio Vieira de Mello and the Fight to Save the World (Penguin Press, 2008)” and also won the Pulitzer Prize in 2003 for her book, “A Problem from Hell”: America and the Age of Genocide.
After reading the book, Sen. Obama contacted Samantha Power and she began working for him in 2005-2006. What role she will play in foreign policy should Sen. Barack Obama be elected to the White House is still unclear. However, the nation should keep their eyes open to determine where Samantha Power will lead the potential president of the United States. Of course, if Barack does not receive the democratic nomination for president and Hillary does then it is unlikely we will see Samantha Power in any place of significant power as far as foreign policy goes. Especially after calling the former first lady a “monster.”
