Tricks Thieves Use Against You!
You will have to hand over your card to another person sometime, and if you do get an dishonest clerk, here are a few tricks to watch out for.
Clone. Hard to pull this one but possible with the technology and a bit of help. If you get distracted the person can snap a picture in a few seconds, then they can make an exact clone. The good thing about the method is, the person who gets stolen won’t know about all the purchases until he sees his bill.
Theft/Substitution. This is more often use in out door cafes etc..The waiter takes your card and brings back another fake one. If you notice it they say sorry and it was an accident. But if you don’t notice…oh well.
The Double Swipe. Basically they swipe your card twice and say the first one didn’t work when it did.When they swipe again the same amount is keyed in again. And they will keep that money for themselves.
The Unpresent method. This happens when you give away your debit card’s information to a retailer by the phone. They can use that information and get the goods you wanted instead.
